Year 2 work experience:
Little Sprouts
Debbie at Little Sprouts asked to create a promotional video for her business' project, Little Sprouts is a business offering cooking sessions to members of a hostel helping them look after themselves.
Filming took place the 22nd September, 10am - 2pm at building across the street from the hostel on Harrington Road.
The promotional video for them was to bid for more investment. We were in two groups - one filming interviews and one filming the residents of the hostel cooking. I helped film the cooking by keeping a record of the shots we filmed as well as suggesting shots. I filmed with the camera a few shots but felt that I couldn't get the best shots due to not being tall enough and holding the camera high enough lead to shaky shots.
Health and safety was important, we identified where the fire extinguisher was since cooking was taking place and that would be the immediate concern. We also had to make sure we didn't cause a disruption or block any walkways and fire escapes.
I completed 4 hours of work experience.

Induction Show
The induction show featured all 3 performing courses and we were asked to record it so that performers could use to to learn from their performance and also as evidence for showreels and memories.
Filming took place on 18th October, 6 pm - 9pm at SRC theatre.
We set up the 2 cameras - one from the back and one from the side, the back angle shows the whole performance space where as the side angle cuts off a bit due to the available space. There were 2 camera operators per camera. The back angle camera was very close to a door that was being used therefore we had to make sure we were not in the way and obstructing it.
I completed 3 hours of work experience.

Editing, at college:
8th November 1pm - 3pm at college 2 hours
Myself and Kane imported all of the footage into a Premiere Pro, which was an hour and 45 minute show from 2 camera angles. We decided to use the camera from the back as the main angle as everyone could be seen as opposed to the side angle which cut off some of the performance area. We added this footage on to the timeline and began to sort through and decided where we would change angles.
15th November 1pm - 3pm at college 2 hours
we synched up the videos of a specific sections which allows us to chose which angle would look best depending on what is happening on stage; this took some time. Because the performance used lots of changing lights the camera from the back angle didn't respond well to this and became unfocussed therefore we had to use the side angle for this until it was corrected (the camera operators had to manually correct it during the performance). We have 2/3 of the video left to edit however since one section is synched we can just add the videos around the already imported ones and since it was one continuous take (for each half of the show) it should already be synched and just be a process of watching the show and decided the best angle.
22nd November 1pm - 3pm at college 2 hours
we edited the actor's section, this took more time as we had to be sure dialogue matched up perfectly as well as actions. We completed this section and then moved onto the second half, starting to sync up the 2 camera angles.

24th November 10am - 11am at college 1 hour
We edited half of the second half, using the back angle the majority because of the amount of people of stage the side angle would cut off some of them. We believe one more hour will be needed to finish the edit then it will be ready to be burned onto discs and distributed.
30th November 11am - 12pm at college 1 hour
We finished off editing the show finalising the sections and adding on the company logo at the end as Ufilms will distribute the show on DVDs.
29th November 11am - 2pm at college 3 hours
Since the performance is 1 hour 45 minutes long the rendering process took a long time therefore we had to leave it render for quite a while however while we saved the rendered file when we reopened it to export it it hadn't saved rendered therefore meaning we had to repeat the process the next day.
30th November 1pm - 4pm at college 3 hours
We started to render the video again and like the first time took a very long time, we then started the exporting process which like the rendering process took just as long with us leaving it over night.

We were given the brief to create a promotional video for River Tees Rediscovered to raise awareness and create more engagement with visitors, we scheduled a meeting with our contact to go over exactly what she wants. We started planning and coming up with possible groups for filming the projects and how we want each project to look on film.
5th October 2016
1pm - 4pm, at college 3 hours
We continued planning by researching the projects and locations we would be filming, we tried to figure out the best ways to get to the locations and the best way to get footage, especially exterior footage where it wouldn't look the prettiest.
6th October 2016
Today we had a 30 minute meeting with our contact Jenny, at college, she talked us through the brief we had and explained the projects we should feature. She gave us contact details for people in charge of the projects so that we could find an appropriate time to film the projects.
12th October 2016
1pm - 4pm, at college 3 hours
After the meeting last week with Jenny, we managed to focus more on what we will film for the promotional video, we looked at the different projects with people contacting the people involved to try and find a possible time or event to film.

After the meeting last week with Jenny, we managed to focus more on what we will film for the promotional video, we looked at the different projects with people contacting the people involved to try and find a possible time or event to film.
I contacted the Pumping Station via Facebook inbox as we could not find an email address for them, then Jenny sent over an email address. I started research on the projects involved and put them into the folder. I took responsibility and organised the folder so that everything was in a specific part and could be found easily, then as more things are done they can added to relevant place with nothing getting lost or misplaced.
We found it hard to start any shot lists or storyboards as we had no upcoming events that we had enough information about that we could visualise what we would film. We did make a calendar/schedule for the upcoming weeks to write events on so that everyone has access to see and participate in a filming event.
19th October 2016
1pm - 4pm, at college 3 hours
It was decided that Kane, Matthew and myself would go and film at the Tees Barrage on Friday so we used this time to prepare for that. Kane and myself created a shot list of shots we think we'll need to get but believe the filmmaking will be very reactive and we'll have to see when we are there as to what will be relevant to film. We printed off release forms and decided on questions if we choose to interview a contributor. We had already been given a risk assessment so we familiarised ourselves with that.
Also I organised the other risk assessments and communications evidence we had into the relevant sections of projects.
21st October 2016
Filming: 10am - 1pm at Tees Barrage 3 hours
Today we filmed at the Tees Barrage, we got a range of footage of the variety things can be done there, hopefully advertising and promoting more people to get involved there. Since we weren't sure what would be available the shot list was only a basis and we filmed a lot more than what was on there. Kane was predominately on camera however I did take a few shots, I made a note of the shots we were collecting so that it could be used in post-production. We only used the shoulder mount as we felt it would be a hassle to set up a tripod for every shot and since we weren't sure on the space we would have available it made sense to just use that piece of equipment, however this meant that we could not film an interview with our correspondent and that some shots will be not be completely steady, to get over this we can stabilise shots in post. The experience was very useful as it has opened more opportunities to film for them with Matthew giving his contact details to be in charge of that. We observed all health safety put into place, not going too far to the water or behind any railings, only going where we were told we were allowed on the tour.

2nd November, 1pm - 4pm 3 hours
I went through all the footage, labelling and sorting it into bins. I then spent time listening to different songs to use as background, once I had picked the song I could edit to the beat, making it easier. I set up the premiere pro document and imported the footage.
9th November, 1pm - 4pm 3 hours
I started editing the video, finding the best clips to use at each point of the song and in the best sequence. I almost finished the video, with only a small section left and to double check the length.
16th November, 1pm - 4pm 3 hours
I finished editing the video and exported it, to share with the rest of the class and add to the main video we will give to the client.
23rd November, 1pm - 4pm 3 hours
Myself and Kane started editing the whole video to be given to the client. We collected everyone's video and imported them into Premiere Pro, we then chose the same royalty free music that Kane used and edited it to be over 2 minutes long as we knew this was the minimum length of the video. We chose to start with Rhys' edit as we like how he used the logo and transition into the video. We also used the other edits of the same project Rhys did and edited them together as they all used different shots in a different way; also Rhys' was cut to a much faster beat therefore we had to edit it to the beat of chosen sound. We then added the next project where there was only one edit made so we had to edit this to the beat a lot more and import the original footage. We chose to include an interview as there wasn't as much footage to use.
30th November, 1pm - 4pm 3 hours
Kane and I finished off the edit of the whole video; we added on the last 2 projects and included the photos we had been given - however some weren't good quality therefore when enlarged became pixelated and couldn't be used.
7th December, 1pm - 2pm 1 hour
The client came in and we had a meeting where we showed them the video and asked for feedback on what they liked and what they would like to be changed. The biggest change will be including the new logo and other logos that are partners as well as using the updated facts and figures. There was one section where they didn't like it as the cuts were to the beat therefore we will change this.

Sleeping Beauty
7th December 2016, 6pm - 9pm 3 hours
I filmed the show from the back of the theatre up the stairs with Amy (first year) this gave me the opportunity to show her how we film and the things that need to be considered when filming a live performance. Since I was at the top of the stairs that were rarely used I still had to make sure the door could open and that people could still walk past us and the tripod on the stairs. There were 2 other people filming from the side angle to allow for a more close up view when editing. We decided to give the first years the footage to edit so that they can get the practice as next year they will have to do it.
3rd February 2017, 4pm - 10pm 6 hours
I edited the first cast of Sleeping beauty individually at home, the editing was straight froward as I have edited other shows before and is simple but time consuming.
