My first assignment of the course is to create a music video but before I can make a music video I need inspiration and guidance.
First? The inspiration, what is my favourite music video? When first asked this question most people respond in two ways: one way is that they will think of a video then change their mind because another good one popped into their head and so on, or people react by their minds going blank and not being able to think of any music video at all. Why? Because they were over-thinking it, thinking there is a right and wrong answer when there isn't. However, this isn't the hard part - the hard part is trying to figure out why it's your favourite.
At first you go through your favourite artists and try to pick one of their videos, which is what I did. For my favourite music video I chose:
Why? Personally, I like the video due to the camerawork simplicity, the video does not feature the band at all and just shows everyday life around a city. The video does not match the lyrics of the song but because the video contains little it still works and does not feel too out of place.
After this video I started to think of other videos I liked and (no judgement please) came up with this:
I really like this music video because it is very fitting to the lyrics of the song, saying that no matter who you are, what hobbies you do or what defines you (in a very high-school clique sort of way) that you should not rely on other people's opinions or prejudice of you. Taylor shows the meaning of the song by first starting out featuring in all the different groups before finishing with in a more neutral setting including everyone. The video perfectly describes to viewers that they should just be themselves no matter what.
Great choices Jess
