Smoking Kills

Matty and Rhys edited the anti-smoking video, it was uploaded to CUT films for the competition and to the Ufilms YouTube, Twitter and Facebook.

** The video did really in the public voting for CUT films, we finished on 2nd or 1st place. The last time the leaderboard was updated we were 2nd but hopefully our last push for votes pushed us into 1st place. We have been invited to London for the ceremony but so have 14 other nominations so even that doesn't tell us whether we were successful.

I believe our video was very fit for purpose and successful in changing attitudes towards smoking as any feedback I have personally received have detailed about how hard-hitting it is and the use of shock and fear by over dramatising and emphasising the impact of smoking - that each time you smoke it leads closer and closer to killing you. We used a tracking shot at the start of the scene that looks very aesthetically pleasing and adds movement to the scene which is still as the main character and his finds are sat around a table chatting, also the movement draws the audience into the scene. The use of cut aways and text was used so that you didn't see the impact of the character shooting himself as it is about the symbolism of smoking and when you smoke you don't always see the damage you are curing until too late.

One piece of feedback we received was from someone I went to school with and one of Sol's friends, he stated how the video makes him want to "pack in". This is the reaction we want, we want people to watch the video and re-evaluate their life and how they smoking.

I also received a piece of feedback from my grandad's friend as he sent the link around, Barry is a teacher and filmmaker and gave some great feedback about the technical aspect of the video.
