Ask Yourself "Do I feel lucky?"

Well, do ya, punk?

Today I filmed the Dirty Harry scene with Harry's infamous revolver replaced with a Nerf N-Strike Elite Strongarm.

The morning didn't start off too well, I received a message from Joseph Dowie who was playing the hostage at 00:39, which I did't read until 5am. He explained that he had just realised he was double booked as he had a read through at the same time we were meant to start filming. Then at 9:08 he messaged saying was not able to come to either the shoot nor the rehearsal he had. Because of this I was forced to recast the role with a member of the class who was not on my shoot - Matthew. Although he didn't suit the role there was no one else available and I had to make do with what I had.

The crew got the kit together and came into some difficulties with sound, we had to change the mic and cables numerous times before finding ones that would work.

We made it to set a little later than planned but started the first shot just after 11, leaving us an hour and a half to get all the shots. The shooting went well, but not as smooth as I'd like, at times I felt like some cast and crew weren't focussed and could've been more prepared but ultimately it went really and I was very thankful for all those involved, especially Matthew for stepping in last minute.

The makeup was great, Josh looked very much like Harry and the bandage across Dylan's nose completed the look. We had a small problem with this as it wouldn't stick and kept coming off but the MUAs came to set and helped restick it back on with liquid latex throughout filming.

Dylan's makeup was started on time, he needed HD makeup with a bandage over his nose. Shauna, the makeup artist assisting Sophie, tried to mess Dylan's hair up to resemble that of the character but his hair wasn't long enough.

Josh's hair and makeup was started later as his bus was delayed but this didn't cause any problems as his makeup was still completed in enough time.

Matthew received HD makeup.

The first shot was an over the shoulder shot from behind Harry as he walks towards the Killer and hostage on the jetty. This went really well, we did this shot a couple times to make sure the pace was right and the framing was consistent.

It was very windy which affected where the Nerf bullets would fly however in the parts where it was important to see where the bullet hits we changed the angle so that a gun could be placed closer allowing  amore accurate shot. The wind also created problems with the sound and it is possible that sound will  have to be recorded separately.

Taylor, who will also help edit, was on-set as a boom operator however in these photos he is also the boom pole. We needed atmosphere sound however didn't have the mic that fits on the camera and the only cable was the long boom cable therefore Taylor had to hold the mic up. During the dialogue section of the scene Taylor did use the boom.

That's a wrap!
I certainly felt lucky working with these talented people!
