Now that my script assignment is finished, I can spend the remainder of my time working on creating the best advert I can. Today we ran the first focus group, the focus group was reasonable success with us collecting thoughts and opinions on our advert, however the focus group consisted of acting students therefore not a clear representation of our target audience. The feedback I received was positive with changes surrounding emphasising the relationship between the old woman and the little girl and how they know each other and how the little girl knows of the old woman's sadness. I think it will difficult for me to show this without needing a reshoot and even then I am not sure how I could show this.
Other areas for improvement that I have noticed that I want to improve is the audio, I have realised that the audio is very quiet and can not be heard very well. Also, the feedback I received thought that the section of the song I have chosen was not the best as it takes almost 40 seconds before the singing comes in, to fix this I will use a different section of the song. The feedback also thought that it looked too sharp and that an effect of some type should be added. In addition, I was told that the magic wasn't obvious enough - this is something I will investigate as to how to make more obvious.
Overall, the feedback from the focus group was that they liked the idea and storyline of the advert and the emotion it creates. They think it reflects John Lewis well and believe it fits in with their previous adverts.
